The Rookie Report ~ Jerad Nielsen
June 21, 2010The Rookie Report asks some of our newer associates their perspective on commercial real estate, how they got started in the business, and the future of the industry. Today, we sat down with Jerad Nielsen.
Jerad is a portfolio manager in Thalhimer’s Roanoke office.
Q: How did you select commercial real estate as a profession?
I first became interested in commercial real estate being around my dad and going out with him on property visits and looking at the operations of a shopping center. I went on to graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Real Estate and Urban Land Development. VCU’s real estate program is what really sparked my interest. Listening to the professors share their different backgrounds and specialties made my final decision that this is something I can enjoy the rest of my life.
Q: What was your first real estate transaction?
My first real estate transaction or experience was leasing apartments at a multifamily community.
Q: What is the next step in your career development?
The next step for my career is working through educational requirements and on the job training to achieve a CPM designation.
Q: What do you think the future holds for the commercial real estate industry?
I believe the future for the commercial real estate industry is going to stay extremely dynamic and will not stop changing. The people in this industry need to stay active and current with the environment and evolving technology.
