The Rookie Report ~ Paul Eakin
June 07, 2010The Rookie Report asks some of our newer agents their perspective on commercial real estate, how they got started in the business, and the future of the industry. Today, we sat down with Paul Eakin.
Paul is an office sales and leasing specialist in Thalhimer’s Fredericksburg office. His profile can be seen here: Profile
Q: How did you select commercial real estate as a profession?
I selected commercial real estate as part of my business plan stemming from 5 years of residential real estate. Over the past 2 years I networked with Neil Sullivan who helped me in joining Thalhimer.
Q: What was your first real estate transaction?
My first commercial transaction was a 1 year lease for 600 SF of office space. We looked at 10 spaces before we found this one. Did I mention it was also a referral?!
Q: What is the next step in your career development?
Next step in my professional career is of course to really learn the business, and a big part of that is to get my CCIM designation. I have already gone to 101 and will be taking 102 this summer.
Q: What do you think the future holds for the commercial real estate industry?
I think the near future for our industry holds more foreclosures and tighter credit, but continued increase in number of transactions.
Case Study

Thalhimer assisted a local investor to take an under-occupied 47-unit property and lease up to the market rate for the area while producing additional income for the owner.
